When I was growing up, my parents would buy the spam in the can. It tasted bad back then and it still tastes bad. You can fry it and it might taste a little better. However, it is still spam.

I get tons of comment span on my SEO blog, now that my traffic is improving. I would say about 98% of the comments made on Spunky Jones are nothing more than generic spam that you could leave on any type of a blog.

I have tried many plugins for the past two years and hardly any of them work that well. However, I have to manually approve or disapprove the comments on my blog. I won't degrade my blog by accepting low quality comments that add nothing to the discussion.

I am afraid that spam is part of out lives in the world of blogging. The only way I know how to stop comment spam 100%, is to shut off the comments in your blog. However, then you end up blogging to yourself.
